Travelogues are narrative accounts of empirical observations and critical evaluations by their authors. They are considered significant sources for exploring the identity and economic structures of societies across different historical periods, taking into account various aspects of social life. Afzal al-Mulk’s travelogue (Khorasan and Kerman) is an important example, providing a comprehensive account of the cultural traditions, socio-economic structures, geographical features, and historical heritage of Kerman. In 1321 AH (1903, during the reign of Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar), Afzal al-Mulk traveled from Mashhad to Kerman and wrote his travelogue. This article aims to examine the socio-economic context of Kerman through the content of this travelogue, using a descriptive-analytical method. The travelogue offers detailed information on road conditions, distances between towns and villages, travel-related difficulties, caravanserais, village populations, local customs and traditions, agricultural products and their prices, occupations, and the number and conditions of the shops in Kerman and its surroundings. Some of the accounts are original and unique.
